ᑮᐌᐎᐣ or Keewaywin (Kee-way-win) means ”going home” or “going back”, in Oji-Cree.

Keewaywin Capital Inc. is a 100%-owned Indigenous company.

We believe that everything  begins and ends within the home in which we are raised including our family, the structure, the wider community, and

the culture that surrounds us.

WHAT WE FINANCE

Keewaywin Capital provides financing in the form of short-term loans to accelerate housing development for Indigenous communities across Canada. As a 100% Indigenous-owned private credit fund, our mission is to help deliver sustainable housing solutions that reflect the needs, priorities, and governance of individual First Nations and Indigenous organizations.

 

Our financing supports:

 

  • Infrastructure for housing developments

  • Indigenous housing development on and off Reserves

  • Predevelopment and construction costs: site servicing, environmental assessments, geotechnical investigations, land surveys, municipal fees, professional fees

  • Land acquisition

  • Purchase and installation of building materials and prefabricated homes

  • Financing for utilities and services for new residential construction

OUR FINANCING IS IDEAL FOR

Indigenous on-Reserve communities, Inuit and Metis, experiencing:

  • Challenges obtaining funding through traditional financing channels;

  • Non-responses or slow, untimely responses from bank financing requests;

  • Lack of government approval for funding support for housing and related projects;

  • Receiving only partial government funding support and seeking additional funding for planning, development and infrastructure;

  • Challenges moving forward with off-reserve housing plans to house band members or Indigenous peoples off-reserve or in urban settings; friendship centres.

We also fund:

  • Those seeking to build or convert spaces into housing units for Indigenous peoples;

  • Renovation efforts, building acquisition purchases, general community betterment.

SECTION 95 HOUSING FINANCING

Through a joint pilot project with CMHC’s Section 95 program for Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Keewaywin Capital can advance future years’ financing to accelerate housing and related construction and development projects.
